Tuesday, April 12, 2016

By Dr. Mercola

While the World Health Organization estimates that 1 in 4 deaths are related to living and working in a toxic environment1,2,3,4 — with air pollution being the greatest contributor—your diet, personal care, and common household products likely pose the most immediate risk to your and your family’s health.

Rocket Fuel Chemical Contaminating Your Food and Water

Saturday, April 20, 2013

There’s nothing quite like an ice-cold glass of rocket fuel on a summer afternoon. Perchlorate, a key ingredient in rocket fuel, can be found in almost everybody in America. Perchlorate in drinking water has been an issue for quite some time, and has been contaminates our ground and drinking water and everything quenched by it—people, lettuce, cows. >

A Newly Discovered Reason to Avoid Fast Food and Popcorn

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

Perfluoroalkyls, which are chemicals used to keep grease from leaking through fast food wrappers, are being ingested by people through their food and showing up as contaminants in blood.

Perfluoroalkyls are stable, synthetic chemicals that repel oil, grease, and water. They are used in surface protection treatments and coatings for packages.

The specific chemicals studied were polyfluoroalkyl phosphate esters (PAPs), which are the breakdown products of the perfluorinated carboxylic acids used in coating the food wrappers. >

Consumers for Dental Choice Shakes up the Debate on Dental Mercury

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

By Charlie Brown
Consumers for Dental Choice

"I do not approve the practice of any who use mercury or quicksilver as an ingredient for stopping teeth, and would not privately recommend any one to go to such."

– Eleazar Parmly, M.D.

Dr. Eleazar Parmly's warning about the dangers of amalgam fillings was not issued in 2012…nor even in 1912…he spoke these words way back in 1845. Over 150 years later, health professionals still voice those same concerns about amalgam – a product that is 50 percent mercury by weight. Over 150 years later, some dentists (albeit an ever-dwindling number) still claim that mercury is safe in people's mouths. Over 150 years later, even children are still subjected to the unnecessary exposure to mercury fillings. >

The Soap You Should Never Use - But 75% of Households Do

Thursday, August 16, 2012

The main compounds in antibiotic wipes, creams and soaps -- triclosan and triclocarban -- have been added to chopping boards, refrigerators, plastic lunchboxes, and mattresses in an attempt to halt the spread of microbes.

But studies show that these antibiotic chemicals are no more likely than regular soap to prevent gastrointestinal or respiratory illness. In fact, for chronically sick patients, antibiotic soaps were actually associated with increases in the frequencies of fevers, runny noses and coughs. >

Common Body Care Ingredient Can Affect Your Thyroid Hormone

Could this Commonly Used Body Care Ingredient Imbalance Your Hormones?

Triclosan is an antimicrobial chemical found in personal care and sanitizing products. It can be found in soaps, toothpaste, and hair products. But there have been recent concerns about its possible effects on human health -- and triclosan has been detected in human breast milk, blood, and urine samples.

A study evaluated the effects of triclosan in female rats. Triclosan was found to advance the age at which the rats hit puberty. Serum thyroid hormone concentrations were also suppressed by triclosan.

According to the study, as reported by Green Med Info:
“In conclusion, triclosan affected estrogen-mediated responses in the pubertal and weanling female rat and also suppressed thyroid hormone in both studies.”

The Crippling Toxin You Knowingly Consume Every Day...

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

By The Fluoride Action Network

The fact that fluoride can damage your bones, often quite seriously, is no longer in dispute. Just ask the millions of people throughout the world who currently suffer from skeletal fluorosis—a crippling bone disease caused by too much fluoride and marked by irregular bone growth and calcification of the joints.

Of course, it takes a high dose of fluoride to cause crippling fluorosis.

But fluoride accumulates over time, so the severity of skeletal fluorosis exists along a continuum, with the earlier stages produced by lower doses and marked by more subtle symptoms, such as joint pain and stiffness.

These early symptoms, which may not be accompanied by obvious bone changes, are often very hard to distinguish from common forms of arthritis. And, indeed, researchers over the years have repeatedly cautioned that the early stages of skeletal fluorosis may be misdiagnosed as a form of arthritis. >

Harvard Study Confirms Fluoride Reduces Children's IQ

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

By Dr. Mercola

A recently published Harvard University meta-analysis funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has concluded that children who live in areas with highly fluoridated water have "significantly lower" IQ scores than those who live in low fluoride areas.

In a 32-page report that can be downloaded free of charge from Environmental Health Perspectives1, the researchers said: >

... an editorial published in the Journal of the American Dental Association, October 1, 1944, stated:

"Drinking water containing as little as 1.2 ppm fluoride will cause developmental disturbances. We cannot run the risk of producing such serious systemic disturbances. The potentialities for harm outweigh those for good."

KEY Health Facts You Need to Know if You Have or Use a Pool

Unlike tap water distribution systems, pool water is recirculated every six to eight hours. During this time, swimmers’ activities can introduce a broad range of organic pollutants that can react with disinfectants.

When chlorine reacts with these precursors, a variety of chemical reactions take place, including the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Chlorinated DBPs can promote respiratory ailments. Standard pool filtration systems are ineffective at removing the precursors. >

Avoid Swimming Pools if You Have Allergies or Asthma

Monday, August 13, 2012

Swimming in a chlorinated pool may boost the odds that a child susceptible to asthma and allergies will develop these problems.
Chlorinated pools irritate the airways of swimmers, exerting a strong additive effect on the development of asthma and respiratory allergies such as hay fever and allergic rhinitis.

The impact of chlorinated pools on the respiratory health of children and adolescents appears to be much more important -- at least by a factor of five -- than that associated with secondhand smoke. >
