The Muqtadi (follower) should recite these behind the Imam silently

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Question and Answer:

Q. when reading Salaah in jamaat, sometimes I end up standing next to a person who recites the duas and tasbihs so loud that I can hear what he is reading and this disturbs my concentration. Please advise

(Query published as received)

All the Duas should be recited silently which will include the Takbir, Salaam and Tasbihs (Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem & Subhana Rabbiyal A’ala), the Thana (SubhanakAllahumma…), the Tahmid (Rabbana wa lakal Hamd) after Ruku, the Tashahhud and Salawaat etc. The Muqtadi (follower) should recite these behind the Imam silently by at least moving his lips in pronunciation of the words or my making himself hear these words. For the Muqtadi to recite these words louder than this whereby others can hear him, is against the Sunnah. (Bada’ius Sana’I’, Vol: 1, Pg: 161, al-Muheet al-Burhani, Vol: 1, Pg: 296)
